REading

I am the Title 1elementary reading teacher.   The purpose of Title 1 is to give students a boost with reading.  We work on reading skills, as well as reading with fluency and expression.  i work from 20-30 minutes with each grade four times a week.  i do not replace classroom teaching; instead, I support and reinforce the skills being taught in class.

I also work a small portion of each day on curriculum and assessment for the Freeman School district.

I am an assistant coordinator for TeamMates of Freeman Mentoring Program.  By committing to 30 minutes a week, you can become a mentor.  It is an awesome opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of a child.  Students in grades 5 to 12 are eligible for a mentor.

Freeman Title 1

Title 1 reading provides extra practice in reading skills in order for students to perform at grade level.

Curriculum and assessment

The rest of my job includes Curriculum and District Assessment Contact.  This allows me to work with all teachers K-12 and with NSCAS assessments.  I also am part of the CIP Committee (Continuous Improvement Process).  Made up of staff members and community members, the CIP committee seeks to make Freeman the best it can be!

I love reading, baking, sewing, and working outside. I enjoy family time! We love our Huskers! We are avid Husker basketball fans.  My husband Jay and I have seasons tickets near the Husker basket. Just look for us on the folding chairs below section 101!  We also follow Husker football, baseball, volleyball, and softball.  And, we love to follow the Freeman Falcons!
I have been teaching since the fall of 1984.   After teaching Kindergarten and Remedial Reading at Filley Consolidated Schools for one year I moved to Adams Public Schools as the first grade teacher and was in that position as we became Freeman Public Schools. I later became a Kindergarten teacher, spending about 10 years in Kindergarten.  In the fall of 2013 I changed positions completely, becoming the Elementary Music/Title 1/Curriculum person, and as of August 2015 I no longer am the music teacher. I have enjoyed the changes and the opportunities to work with a variety of ages.

My teaching highlights have included teaching both of my sons in first grade, as well as my daughter-in-law, and now teaching the children of former students, or as I call them, my "grand-students!"
